The shift key is comparable to a shift key on a keyboard. It allows you to access the function above the key entered. When using the shift key, press the shift key and release before you press the next key.

The a key is used to enter mixed numbers or fractions. When entering the mixed number 1 the calculator display will show 1_┘2_┘3.
