MVAEA Leadership
Academy
Lately Leadership Academies have been a part of the annual
conference. For 2011, the Conference
is expected to be similar to a prolonged Leadership Academy event.
All MVAEA members are encouraged to attend
Watch Happenings in the Valley for more information.
The MVAEA Leadership Academy is a membership service to the state
associations. The academy was started in order to provide leadership training
to board members and potential board members from across the region. The
Leadership Academy is open to MVAEA members for a nominal fee. Room and board
is the responsibility of each participant.
As noted above, lately the academy has been part of the annual
conference.
Past Leadership Academies – no separate
information for 2009 or 2010.
The 2008 Presenter was Art Ellison.
Art Ellison is a
native of Vermont. He obtained a BA from Earlham College, a MAT from
Northwestern University and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts. He
has worked as a road construction laborer, high school social studies
teacher, community organizer, local adult education program director and
since 1980 as the New Hampshire State Director of Adult Education.
In 2008 Art was the
Chair of the National Council of State Directors of Adult Education Policy
Committee, Art manages the Single Point of Contact network established by the
State Directors to build support for adult education funding and policy in
Washington, DC. Art’s favorite quote and guidance for life comes from the
great labor organizer, Mother Jones, “Pray for the dead and fight like hell
for the living”.
The 2007 featured presenter was Gil Kinnunen, Learning and
Personal Development Consultant from Minnesota.
He has a wide range
of interests and the easiest way to reach him is via the MVAEA Directory, or
through his link as President of the Salolampi Foundation. Gil is a member of
MACAE, MVAEA and MNISPI (Minnesota Chapter of the International Society for
Performance Improvement).
