Adult Education LinksThe American Association for Adult and
Continuing Education
is the nation's premier organization dedicated to
enhancing the field of adult learning. With members from
60 affiliates and 40 nations, the Association represents
its members from secondary and post-secondary education,
business and labor, military and government and from
community-based organizations. AAACE publishes three of
the nation's leading periodicals in education and
training: Adult Learning magazine, the scholarly journal
Adult Education Quarterly and the journal Adult Basic
Education. AAACE also publishes books, monographs and
booklets on a variety of adult education topics.(This is
an excellent site with links to most other adult ed
related sites.) The Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) provides leadership, advocacy, and professional development for adult basic education practitioners and adult learners in order to advance the unification and professionalization of the field. It sponsors an annual conference of over 1,000 practitioners in the field of adult education and literacy. The Midwest Literacy Information and
Communication System (LINCS) operating out of the Ohio Literacy
Resource Center, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio,
provides a link to national, regional, and state-specific
resource material for adult literacy practitioners and
students. Web sites have been developed for each state
literacy resource center in the twelve Midwest states--Illinois,
Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. National Community Education
Association National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) was created as a part of the 1991 Literacy Act by a bipartisan Congressional coalition to be the hub of national literacy efforts. By serving as a resource for the literacy community, the Institute assists in addressing urgent national priorities-- upgrading the workforce, reducing welfare dependency, raising the standard of living, and creating safer communities. Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) This site provides useful information about programs, grants, and events in the fields of: Adult Education; Vocational Education; National Programs for Vocational and Adult Education; School-to-Work; Community College Liaison Office; White House Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities; Office of Correctional Education; and Empowerment Zones/Enterprise Communities. University Continuing Education Association an international association of universities and colleges working to expand higher education opportunities for part-time and non-traditional students.
